1LT John Robert Davidson

1LT John Robert Davidson was born 13 Jul 1919 in San Antonio, Texas to Noah Ralph and Ava Estella (Dixon) Davidson.  His father worked as a blacksmith and later as an agent representing a manufacturer.

After entering service, John was sent overseas and at some point in time managed to be married, apparently to a woman named Betty.  

Assigned to I Company 116th Infantry for the invasion of occupied Europe, John is shown on the morning report as being present for duty on 1 Jun 1944. He served as a platoon leader in I Company until wounded on 27 Jun 1944 and evacuated to hospital. On 22 Jul 1944 he was returned to the unit from the replacement depot to serve as commanding officer but was reassigned to L Company 116th Infantry on 1 Aug 1944 to again serve as a platoon leader. 1LT Davidson was wounded for the 2nd time on 5 Aug 1944 and evacuated to hospital where he died of his wound(s) on 6 Aug 1944.

1LT Davidson lies in the Brittany American Cemetery.  There is a cenotaph in the Mustang Prairie Cemetery in Mustang, Texas.
